Our electrical awareness course gives all participants the knowledge and understanding of working with overhead electricity cables and networks. The 1656 Introduction to Electrical Network Infrastructure for Authorised Persons course replaces the previous T0911 course. The Introduction to Electrical Network Infrastructure for Authorised Persons course has both theory and practical aspects to the course with no pre-requisites for course entry other than to be an Electrical Mechanic.

  • Understand the relevant legislative and safety requirements for working near live electrical apparatus
  • Explain the basic principles of electricity
  • Describe the major components of an electricity network
  • Identify and manage the hazards associated with working near live electrical apparatus
  • Identify electrical apparatus used in overhead distribution systems

 

1656 Introduction to Electrical Network Infrastructure for Authorised Persons superseded the following courses:

Target audience

This course is targeted for those who wish to become an electrical spotter or safety observer regarding the Australian Electrical Network.

Course delivery

At one of Link Resources purpose-built training facilities face to face training and assessment are conducted. Upon arrangement with us, training and assessment can also be conducted on-site at the premises of clients providing there are suitable infrastructure and industry training facilities.

Learning outcomes & skills acquired

Once the course is completed, all participants will have gained knowledge and skills in:

  • Apply electrical safety and technical knowledge relevant to the type of work and the operation of plant or vehicles near overhead and underground electric lines.
  • Interpret the application and intent of the Electrical Safety Code of Practice – Working Near Overhead and Underground Electric Lines.
  • Describe the difference between Authorised Persons, Instructed Persons and Untrained Persons as outlined in the Electrical Safety Code of Practice – Working Near Overhead and Underground Electric Lines
  • Explain basic electrical concepts and the effect of electricity on the human body.
  • Identify hazards that may be present and the control measures to be implemented to manage the risks associated with work carried out on or near overhead and underground electric lines; and
  • Identify electricity network infrastructure assets, substation components and voltages.
  • Identify exclusion zones applicable to people, vehicles and operating plant for:
    • Various electric line voltages
    • Types of conductors and cables
    • Environmental conditions and
    • Training and authorisations of people on the electricity network
  • State the emergency planning, response and reporting procedures required in the event of an electrical incident or accident.
